ADAMS -- Berkshire County Little League baseball teams have begun traveling the long road they hope leads to Williamsport, Pa.
The first day of the Don Gleason District 1 Tournament ended with Dalton-Hinsdale, Pittsfield South and Myron Gray Pittsfield West moving on in the winners bracket.
Dalton-Hinsdale got a fifth-inning RBI single by Jacob Gai to score the winning run in a 3-2 win over Don Gleason Pittsfield North. Winning pitcher Brandon Roughley homered for Dalton-Hinsdale. Luke Hescock singled for Pittsfield North.
In Saturday’s second game, Zak Bernardo’s two-run single in the sixth inning capped a three-run rally and gave Pittsfield South a 4-3 win over North Adams.
Zack Zerbato doubled for South in support of winning pitcher Jett Steinman. Hunter Sarkis had an RBI single, Ethan Howland singled and Caleb Rondeau scored a run for North Adams.
Pittsfield West got a big day out of Anton Lazits in a 11-2 win over Adams. Lazits was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game. He also hit two home runs and drove in four.
Also for West, Nick Taylor had two singles, a double and an RBI; Jack Risley had a triple and two RBI; Jack Lee had two singles and Mason Alfonso hit a double.
For Adams, C.J. Rushing had a double and an RBI; Dave Lennon had a double and Zack Swistak had a single and an RBI.
There are two winners bracket games today at Beaver Bard Park. Dalton-Hinsdale will play Great Barrington at noon. It’s Great Barrington’s first game of the tournament. The second game at 2 features Pittsfield South and West.
North Adams and Adams will play Monday in a 5:30 p.m elimination game.
SUTTON -- The Williamstown 10-under Cal Ripken team won its opener in the state tournament, beating Frontier 11-4. Landen Jamula got the win, giving up three runs on four hits in five innings, walking three and striking out five. Jack Cangelosi pitched a perfect sixth.
Thomas Martin was 2 for 3 with a run scored and three RBI, while Oscar Low was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Williamstown scored eight times in the second inning.
The second game didn’t go as well for Williamstown in a 7-6 loss to Hudson.
Derek Paris took the loss for Williamstown. Alex Axt was 1 for 3 with two RBI for Williamstown. Brady Stuart got the win.
