WORCESTER -- The Pittsfield Babe Ruth 15-year-old All-Stars used an offensive explosion to earn a commanding 18-1 win over Worcester East Side in the opening round of the Western/Central State Tournament on Tuesday.
Already leading 6-1, Pittsfield used a 10-run fourth inning to pull away for good.
Jack Scarafoni hit a three-run single to start the big inning. Shane McMahon also hit a bases-clearing double. Shane Tierney added a two-run double as well.
Jordan Nassif went 3 for 3. Ryan Abel went 2 for 4. McMahon earned the win, scattering five hits in four innings.
Pittsfield returns to action Thursday at 5 p.m. at Deming Field versus Worcester South Side.

Little League 12s: Pittsfield North 16, Pittsfield West 1
ADAMS -- The Pittsfield Don Gleason North 12s used the long ball to power their way to a consolation-bracket win over Pittsfield Myron Gray West in the District 1 tournament.
For North, Jack Harrington hit a two-run home run and a double, while Alex Hawkins hit a three-run home run. Logan Buendia had two singles, and Ryan Lapierre had three singles. Cole Witkowski had two doubles and earned the win on the mound.
Cole Lander had a double for West, while Jake Risley added a single.
North will play again Thursday at 7:30 in Adams as they await the winner of the Dalton/Hinsdale-Adams matchup. Those teams meet today at 5:30 p.m.
Little League 11s: Pittsfield South 13, Pittsfield North 4
ADAMS -- In a game moved back a day by rain, the Pittsfield South 11s earned a round-robin win over Don Gleason North in the District 1 tournament.
Shane Bernardo hit a two-run double in the fifth inning. Pat Rindfuss and Lennon Steinman each had two hits. Brendan Stannard earned the win on the mound.
Jared Lebeau led North with a two-run single in the first inning. Jonathan Monahan had a double and Kyle McDonald had a single.
