ADAMS -- A home run by Jett Steinman helped keep Pittsfield South alive as it edged Dalton/Hinsdale in the Don Gleason District 1 11-12 Little League Tournament 4-3 on Friday.
The loss eliminated Dalton/Hinsdale from the double-elimination tournament.
Dalton came out hot, scoring three runs in the first inning. Nate Zink hit an RBI double, Kevin Huban had an RBI single and Gabe Davis also knocked in a run.
However, Pittsfield answered back in the third inning. Mike Mansfield started the inning with a single and came home on Jett Steinman’s double. Leo Arace knocked in Steinman with a double and Christian Marchbanks tied the game with an RBI double.
The team’s were tied at 3-3 in the fourth inning when Steinman’s home run gave Pittsfield the lead for what proved to be the decisive run.
Marchbanks was the winning pitcher.
Pittsfield South advances to play Great Barrington in the championship round today at noon in Adams. Pittsfield must defeat Great Barrington to force an ‘if’ game Sunday at noon.

NORTH ADAMS -- Pittsfield South defeated Great Barrington in pool play of Don Gleason District 1 10-11 Little League Tournament on Friday.
Shane Bernardo was the winning pitcher.
Bo Bramer, Brendan Stannard, Andrew Watkins and Pat Rindfuss had two hits each in the mercy-rule game that ended in four innings.
Sam Jaffe had two hits and a run scored for Great Barrington. Matt Seward and Kolby Bleau had one hit each.
Westfield 3, Pittsfield 1
WESTFIELD -- Ian Benoit pitched seven strong innings, but the Pittsfield South 13-year-olds lost in the Western Mass. Little League tournament to Westfield.
Benoit allowed only one earned run, striking out five.
Cedric Rose led PIttsfield South with three hits. Ryan Gaudette added a double and a run scored.
The loss sends Pittsfield to into the loser’s bracket. South will face Holden today at 4 p.m. at Bullins Field in Westfield.
The winner advances to the championship round against Westfield on Sunday at 1 p.m., also at Bullins.
