KEENE, N.H. -- The North Adams SteepleCats used the long ball to pick up a nice road win.
Anthony Papio homered in the top of the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings and Ramon Valdez hit a three-run jack in the 10th as the SteepleCats rallied from an early deficit to beat Keene 6-3 in extra innings on Wednesday night.
The late power surge made a winner out of Jim Voyles, who pitched four innings of shutout relief. Voyles gave up one hit, did not walk anyone and struck out seven Swamp Bat hitters.
Keene was nursing a 3-2 lead after eight innings and were one pitch away from chalking up a win against its Northern Division rival. But Swamp Bats pitcher Matt Clancy threw an 0-2 pitch in the zone and Papio sent the ball deep into the night for his third home run.
The SteepleCats had a chance to win the game in regulation as Luke Maglich doubled off Benjamin Criscuolo, who came in for Clancy after the homer. Maglich stole third but was left there as pinch-hitter J.C. Cardenas grounded out.
With one out in the top of the 10th, Criscuolo hit Zach Lucas with a pitch. Again, Keene was a pitch away from getting out of this inning unscathed as Todd Juliano flied out to left.
A wild pitch moved Lucas to second and he took third on Kyle Richardson's infield single. The next batter was Valdez, who looked at ball one before hitting a three-run home run, his first of the summer.
In the home 10th, Keene's Brady Sheetz reached on an error by second baseman Cardenas.
Trevor Scott gave up three runs on eight hits in six innings of work for the SteepleCats. Juliano, Richardson and Valdez all had three hits each for North Adams.
