PITTSFIELD -- Pittsfield South CD is the champion of the 2014 John Codey Jimmy Fund Little League Baseball Classic.
South CD beat Myron Gray Pittsfield West 7-6. Connor Hayford pitched the first 4 1/3 innings and struck out six. He was relieved by Kieran Coscia.
For South CD, Owen Kroboth had two hits and two runs batted in while Michael Grady had a single and a double.
Pittsfield West came close, rallying in the late innings, but could not get the tying run across.
Sam Sherman had a single and a double and two RBI, while Nick Hall had a single and a double and drove in a run. Bryce Huffman had two hits and Matt Lee had a double and two RBI. Jared Jansen was the starting pitcher for Pittsfield West.
Pittsfield West did repeat as the top fund raiser for the Jimmy Fund, and the team has earned a trip to Fenway Park for a Red Sox game.
The top individual fund raisers were Jack Wildgoose of Pittsfield South Red and Owen Gutzmer of Pittsfield West.

WESTMINSTER -- The Lee 9U All-Stars finished 2-1 in pool play at the Western Mass. tournament, but did not qualify for the semifinals on a runs-allowed tiebreaker.
Lee beat host Westminster 11-1. The Lee stars broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the third inning, both scoring on Dylan Ely’s two-run single. The Lee squad broke the game open with six runs in the fifth inning.
Brendan Armstrong led Lee with three hits.
Cliff Flynn struck out six and walked one in his five innings of one-hit baseball.
Eddie Mullen of Pittsfield South should have been credited with an error in Saturday’s Section 1 championship game.
