The North Adams SteepleCats dropped both games of their doubleheader on Tuesday, losing 4-1 to the Newport Gulls and 8-1 to the Mystic Schooners.

Nathan Foriest took the loss for the ‘Cats in the first game of the day. He pitched five innings, allowing three runs on five hits.

Foriest gave the team a quality start, but Newport starter John Kilichowski was dominant. Kilichowski struck out 12 and allowed only two hits in seven innings.

Ryan Kahl's RBI single plated North Adams' only run.

The SteepleCats' offense struggled again in their nightcap. Mystic starter Alex Vargas and two relievers combined to limit the 'Cats to just four hits. Matthew Schmidt's RBI single scored the SteepleCats' lone run.

Zach Prendergast took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits over five innings.

NECBL: Nashua sweeps Suns

NASHUA, N.H. -- Scott Braren's pinch-hit, walk-off RBI single in the eighth inning of a doubleheader nightcap gave the Nashua Silver Knights a 2-1 win over the Pittsfield Suns on Tuesday. The win completed a sweep of Pittsfield, as Nashua won 7-5 in the opener.

Braren pinch hit for Matt Mottola in the bottom of the eighth with the game tied at 2, and delivered the key two-out hit off Alex Lagos to give the Silver Knights the win. Jimmy Ricoy had driven in the tying run earlier in the inning with an RBI single.

The game was scoreless until the eighth, when Pittsfield first baseman Steve Dill drove in the game's first run in the top of the inning to score Tyler Bell.

The Suns managed just five hits off three Nashua pitchers, with Trevor Holmes earning the win in relief.

Pittsfield starting pitcher Mitch Holt earned a no-decision, allowing four hits and striking out four while walking one in 5 2/3 innings.
