Matt Gilardi successfully defended his men's club championship at Skyline Country Club by six shots over Steve Wood last weekend in the final club championship tournament of the summer in Berkshire County.
Gilardi played three solid rounds of 72,74 to finish at 7-over par 220. Wood (80-70-76—226) earned the runner-up spot by two shots over Paul Gilardi, Matt's father, who had rounds of 73, 79 and 76.
In the senior men's division, Art Holmes (74-78—152) took home the title by five shots over Dennis Richard (83-74—157).
Gordy Zaks won the super senior title with a round of 81. Russ Noto won the super seniors net competition with a 61.
In the ladies championship, Jenna Giardina won her first club title with a solid 79. Nancy Renzi took low net honors with a 66.
The team of Paul Mahoney and Dan McCusker shot a sizzling 8-under 63 to win the A Division in Wednesday's Berkshire County Fall Series tournament at Egremont Country Club.
Bill Gates and Mike Cartier combined for a 69 in the two-man scramble to finish second by one shot over Joe Yannone and John Leduc.
The A Division net winners were Dennis Boldyga and Dave Kay, who won in a match of cards after posting a 61. Jim Kindlon and Ed Flaherty also shot a 61 while Mike Koperniak and Dennis Dickensen finished third with a 69.
In the B Division, Bob Kay and Ed Locke took top honors with a 66 with the pairing of Wayne Shutts and John Rybka finishing second with a 69. The team of Ron Pero and Dick Rivers, who won last week's two-man bramble at Skyline Country Club with Jack Bartow, finished third with a 72.
The winning net winners in the B Division was the team of Bob Messer and Paul Traversa with a 62. Chuck Lewitt and Ken Hodgen finished second with a 66 and the team of Pat Grogan and Jim Crews were third with a 68.
The divisions are based on the combined ages of the teams with the A Division for the "young" guys.
This Wednesday's tournament will be played at Cranwell Spa and Golf Resort. It's too late to enter but there is still time to sign up for the Sept. 28 event at Berkshire Hills Country Club. Call the pro shop by this Friday to get into the field.
