1 dead, 1 hurt in upstate NY attack; cops grab son

SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 22-year-old man taken into custody in Massachusetts after his stepfather was found bludgeoned to death and his mother was found severely beaten outside their Albany-area home will be charged with murder.

Anthony Repp was taken into custody Friday morning in Deerfield, Mass., about 60 miles from his family's home in Schaghticoke (SKAT'-ah-coke), N.Y. Police say Repp hopped a freight train.

Police responding to a domestic violence call Thursday night found 62-year-old Michael Matala and 58-year-old Cynthia Matala beaten in their front lawn. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. She is listed in critical condition.

Police searched overnight for Repp, who was at the home during the incident.

Police say they're trying to extradite Repp to New York to face a second-degree murder charge.
