1 person dead after fatal fire in Beverly

BEVERLY >> One person has died in a house fire in Beverly.

Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett's office said the fire happened Thursday at about 7 a.m. on Highland Terrace. The victim's name is being withheld until their family can be notified. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire officials told the Boston Globe that it took them about three hours to put out the flames, which residents said could be seen shooting out of the roof of the three-story house at times.

Investigators from the state fire marshal's and district attorney's offices are still on the scene. Some area roads were also closed to traffic.
