$15,000 bail for Pittsfield man facing child porn, sexual assault charges

PITTSFIELD — A city man who allegedly fled to New York to avoid child pornography and sexual assault charges has been ordered held on $15,000 bail.

Jon A. Rodriguez, 31, whose last known local address is Woodlawn Avenue, was arrested on a warrant early Tuesday morning.

The alleged offenses took place on or about Oct. 17 and the criminal complaint was issued on Nov. 23. Details of the allegations were not available because the records in the case have been sealed.

Rodriguez pleaded not guilty in Central Berkshire District Court on Wednesday to possession of child pornography and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

Prosecutors asked Judge William Rota for high bail based on the nature of the charges, the potential penalties Rodriguez faces if convicted and his potential as a flight risk, based on his leaving the state, allegedly to avoid the pending charges.

If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison on the possession charge and up to 10 years in prison on the assault and battery charge.

Should he post bail, Rodriguez must remain in Massachusetts, surrender his passport, have no contact with and remain at least 100 yards away from the alleged victim and the reporting party,

He is due back in court on Feb. 17 for a pretrial hearing.
