GREAT BARRINGTON -- Two locals are facing multiple charges in connection with a rash of motor vehicle break-ins that occurred in town in late May.

Coty Pelletier, a 17-year-old homeless man from Great Barrington, and Amara R. Harvey, 21, of Christian Hill Road, Great Barrington, are alleged to have broken into a number of vehicles in town in order to steal several thousands of dollars worth of electronics and other materials.

Pelletier and Harvey were arraigned in Southern Berkshire District Court on Thursday.

Police were notified in the early morning hours on May 29 that an individual who parked on Bridge Street had a GPS device, wallet and backpack stolen from his car. The individual told police he saw Harvey and a male with pink hair in the area when he left his vehicle.

Police later that morning saw a male who matched that description with a flashlight under a car in a driveway on East Street. The individual, later identified as Pelletier, fled the scene and wasn’t found, according to police.

On May 30, police noticed Pelletier in brush behind Railroad Avenue and apprehended him after a brief chase, according to court documents. After his arrest, Pelletier told investigators he broke into his first car the week before and he admitted to taking a variety of items from multiple vehicles in town. Though Pelletier initially denied Harvey was involved, he later admitted to police that Harvey was aware the items were stolen and where they were taken from.

Police later that day made contact with Harvey, and found various allegedly stolen items in her possession, including GPS devices, cuff links, a dress and a flashlight. A double-edged knife also was in her bag.

Police also tracked down a smartphone and laptop in Harvey’s car that were reported stolen from a local home.

Pelletier has been charged with six counts of breaking and entering, four misdemeanor larceny charges, larceny from a building and shoplifting.

Harvey faces charges of breaking and entering, two counts of receiving stolen property, carrying a dangerous weapon, larceny and shoplifting.

Harvey and Pelletier are due back in court for pretrial hearings on July 19.
