Grace Smith

Sophomore, Mount Greylock

The county MVP won four of the five county meets, and was the top Berkshire finisher in the state meet, leading the Mounties to second place.

The coach's take: She came into her own this year. She did a lot of training over the summer and her commitment made her better.

-- Hilary Greene, Grelock coach

Josie Marshall

The No. 2 skier in the county, Marshall was the only skier in the league to beat Greylock's Smith. Finished 11th in the state meet. Last year's county MVP. Marshall didn't slip; Smith just got better.

Ellen Ross

Senior, Wahconah

A perennial finisher in the top five all winter, Ross was Wahconah's best, most consistent performer over the season. She finished 15th in the state meet.

The coach's take: Ellen was the senior captain, and she's been skiing with us four years. Over her career, she's worked hard to improver her pwrformance."

Gerry was part of the Mounties' young corps of skiers during the season. Her best finish was fourth in the season's second meet.

Butcher finished in the top 10 three times over the winter, finishing eighth all three times. She was 22nd in the state nordic meet.

The coach's take: We were working with a much greener team that we had last year. She was one of the underclassmen who stepped up.

Abby Wiseman

Freshman, Mount Greylock

Another strong performer for the Mounties' state runner-up team. Last year, Wiseman was on the Mounties' alpine and nordic teams. She focused on nordic and it showed, as she ended up 20th overall in the state.

The coach's take: She skied on both teams last year, but she wanted to conentrate on cross-country skiing this year. She'a a strong competitor and very coachable.

-- Greene

Zavi Sheldon

Senior, Mount Greylock

One of the Mounties' veterans, Sheldon has been in Greylock's program for the past six years. Her best finish for the season was a pair of eighth-place finishes in the second and third races of the year.

The coach's take: She's been with us for six years. Zavi was in a lot of pain at the end of the season and there was some question as to whether she'd race the state meet. She decided to do it, and she did pretty well for us.

-- Greene
