3 charged with break-in, car theft in Great Barrington
GREAT BARRINGTON -- One 17-year-old and two juveniles were arrested and charged for allegedly breaking into an auto repair shop and stealing a car, according to police.
Alexander Oquendo, 17, and two juveniles were charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony, destruction of property over $250, trespassing, larceny of a motor vehicle, and attempted larceny of a motor vehicle, according to a news release from police.
It happened around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, after police received a call from neighbors of JD Automotive on State Road that three people were the breaking glass of the shop’s front door and attempting to take a Lexus parked in front, the news release said.
When Officer Adam Carlotto arrived on the scene, the Lexus was still there, while an unoccupied Ford Expedition in the lot had its lights on.
Based on more information from neighbors, police learned the suspects fled the scene in a Ford Fusion, the news release said.
Officer Bryan Arnold came across the Ford Fusion on Stockbridge Road and pulled it over, the news release said.
At gunpoint, Arnold ordered the people in the car, Oquendo and the two juveniles, to get out and lay on the ground. Carlotto also arrived on the scene for the arrests, and Stockbridge police also arrived to assist.
When the three were placed under arrest and searched, police found a part of the key to the Lexus on one subject and the other half of the key inside the stolen Ford Fusion. Police said they also found a set of keys to the Ford Expedition in the car.
Oquendo, the adult suspect, was arraigned in Southern Berkshire District Court.
The two juveniles were arraigned in Berkshire Juvenile Court in Pittsfield.
