4-year-old boy drowns in Massachusetts lake

BLACKSTONE (AP) -- Massachusetts officials say a 4-year-old boy drowned in a lake near the Rhode Island border after going missing while visiting friends.

Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early says the boy was pulled from Lake Hiawatha in Blackstone near the Bellingham line on Sunday afternoon, about 20 minutes after he went missing.

Early says CPR was performed on the boy and he was taken to Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, where he was pronounced dead.

The boy’s name hasn’t been released. Early says the child and his parents were visiting friends near the lake.

State and Blackstone police are investigating.
