5 charged in golf cart case

PITTSFIELD - One of five people charged in an alleged stolen golf cart joy ride was held without bail on Tuesday on a possible probation violation, while the man's codefendants were released on personal recognizance.

Anthony D. Bushika, 21, of South Street, Pittsfield, who has been on probation since last July, appeared in Berkshire Central District Court on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to more than a dozen charges including felony breaking and entering and multiple counts of larceny and vandalism.

He was held without bail pending a final probation violation hearing scheduled for June 22. He is being represented by attorney Joseph G. Vosit. In July, Bushika had charges of assault and battery and vandalism continued without a finding of guilt and was on probation at the time he allegedly committed the new crimes.

He was one of five people charged with stealing golf carts belonging to the Country Club of Pittsfield early Monday morning and driving them around Bousquet Ski Area on Dan Fox Drive and on South Mountain Road.

Police said the defendants caused between $ 25,000 and $29,000 in damage to the vehicles, one of which flipped over and landed in the woods, while another was abandoned after getting stuck in mud.

Besides Bushika, Katherine Miller, 18 of Dalton; Mitchell Harris, 19 of Hinsdale; Casey Daby, 22, of Pittsfield; and Ryan Murphy, 17, of Richmond, were also arraigned on Tuesday.

All four pleaded not guilty to the same charges as Bushika - breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony and six counts each of vandalism and larceny over $ 250 - and were released on personal recognizance.

Two other people who were not apprehended Monday morning are also expected to be charged, according to police.
