A weekend split for the Suns

Monday June 25, 2012

BROCKTON -- Nick Colucci spoiled a huge comeback by the Pittsfield Suns, scoring in the bottom of the ninth on an error to deliver a 14-13 win for the Brockton Rox on Sunday.

Pittsfield has scored seven runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game at 13, but it wasn't enough in this wild game. The teams combined for 39 hits and left 25 men on base, but Pittsfield had five errors.

Brendan Slattery drove in three for the Suns while Travis Smith and Chad Funkhouser had two RBI each.

Pittsfield led 3-1 after one, eventually taking a 6-3 lead into the sixth. Brockton then scored 10 runs over the next two innings, prompting that seven-run eighth from Pittsfield.

The Suns had eight hits in that inning, including a two-run single from Slattery, to even the score. Unfortunately, they couldn't hold serve in the ninth, falling on that error.

Pittsfield 7, Torrington 6

PITTSFIELD -- The Suns had their own walk-off win Saturday, taking the victory when Brandon Howard scored in the bottom of the ninth of an error. Ryan Deitrich had three hits, including a double, scored three times and drove in a run for Pittsfield.

The Suns rallied from 6-2 down in the sixth, scoring five runs over the final four innings to earn the victory. Torrington didn't score over the final five frames. Adam Krebs earned the win, allowing just one hit over 12 3 innings.
