Activist Rev. Jim Antal to speak at Stockbridge church

STOCKBRIDGE -- Religious leader and environmental activist, the Rev. Jim Antal, will preach and lecture on Sunday at the First Congregational Church of Stockbridge, at 4 West Main St., across the street from the Stockbridge Cemetery.

Antal will preach at the 10 a.m. service at the church. Following the service, there will be a coffee hour in the Jonathan Edwards Room at the church.

At 1:30, Antal will present a lecture, free and open to the public, "Shaped By Hope in a Climate Crisis World."

The lecture, also at the church, will recount Antal's experiences working on the international stage regarding climate change.

Antal was the author and leading proponent of the United Church of Christ's vote in 2013 to divest from fossil fuel companies. The UCC, which the umbrella organization for the First Congregational Church, was the first denomination to do so.

Antal spent 20 years leading churches in Newton and Shaker Heights, Ohio.

Antal has served as the Conference Ministere and president of the United Church of Christ since 2006.

His activism and leadership in the areas of the environment have attracted nationwide attention.
