Adams-Cheshire schools to consider interim superintendent

CHESHIRE — The Adams-Cheshire Regional School Committee will explore the possibility of bringing on an interim superintendent for a year after Superintendent Kristen Gordon leaves later this year.

Chairman Paul Butler suggested bringing on an interim leader for the next school year, following Gordon's resignation, effective June 30.

"Then we can conduct a more thorough search at the end of this [school] year or early into next year," Butler said.

Gordon has cited the long working hours of her current position as a reason for her departure, after which she will seek to find a job as a building administrator. She served as the principal at C.T. Plunkett Elementary for nearly a decade before accepting the superintendent position in 2012.

Butler noted that the Massachusetts Association of School Committees usually have a "fairly extensive list" of usually retired qualified candidates for an interim superintendent position.

"I can certainly contact them and get some feedback for our next meeting and bring it back to the committee," Butler said.

Though no official vote was taken, the board agreed to have Butler explore the option.
