Adams: Former resident receives achievement award at nutrition industry conference

Food Service Director and Registered Dietitian Anna Apoian, formerly Anna Degen from Adams, and now at Hawthorne (Calif.) School District, was presented the Silver Special Achievement Award at the National Foodservice Achievement Management Excellence award ceremony on Jan. 12 in Miami, Fla.

This year’s ceremony was held during the School Nutrition Association’s Child Nutrition Industry Conference.

Apoian’s department averages a profit of $200,000 per year, which is reinvested into the food service program for the students.

During her tenure, Apoian has completed three remodels in school cafeterias in her district and has refurbished all 11 kitchens by updating service lines, equipment and computers.

The changes have allowed more seating for students, storage for additional food items and an offering of more nutritious lunches.
