Adams man found guilty of sexual assault on child
PITTSFIELD — An Adams man has been found guilty of charges he sexually assaulted a child on numerous occasions from 2011 through 2013.
George Shurtleff, 54, was convicted of one count of rape and abuse of a child aggravated by age difference, three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older.
Jurors took about three hours to reach their verdict, according to the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office.
Shurtleff was ordered held without bail at the Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction pending his sentencing next week.
Assistant Berkshire District Attorney Rachael Eramo, who prosecuted the case, said Shurtleff had created a quid-pro-quo arrangement with the victim in which he would solicit sexual favors in exchange for privileges.
The abuse took place on various dates between Feb. 6, 2011, and Nov. 17, 2013.
Testimony in the trial began last Thursday. The case was heard before Judge John Agostini, who scheduled the sentencing hearing for 2 p.m. Nov. 30 in Berkshire Superior Court.
