Adams: Star gazing offered from Mount Greylock summit


The Amherst Area Amateur Astronomers Association and the Department of Recreation and Conservation are sponsoring star gazing from the Mount Greylock summit from 9 to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 21.

The free program is appropriate for all ages and canceled only if there is heavy cloud cover or rain.

A number of different telescopes with lens apertures varying in size from 3-20 inches will be available. Participants should wear warm clothing for cool evening temperatures after sunset. Flashlights for walking are recommended after dark.

Participants will meet on the summit near the War Memorial Tower. The summit is accessible by car from Reservoir or Notch Road off Routes 8 and 2 in North Adams and Rockwell Road off Route 7 in Lanesborough.

The program is wheelchair accessible and reasonable accommodations may be available upon request. Information: Visitor Center at (413) 499-4262.
