All-Eagle Baseball Capsules

Matt Koperniak

Freshman, Hoosac Valley

Koperniak hit a team-best .438 with 28 hits and 18 RBI. A sure-handed center fielder who was unflappable at the plate.

The coach's take: Yeah, we knew he'd be good, and I've had freshmen before, but he just stepped into the lineup and started hitting. Great swing, and the ball always carries when he hits it.

-- Hoosac coach Bob Rivard

Sean Houston

Senior, Mount Greylock

Houston hit .382, with four triples, 14 RBI, 28 runs scored and seven stolen bases.

The coach's take: Tremendous attitude. Tremendous teammate. At mid-season, he came to me and told me he didn't think he should lead off, as he wasn't helping the team. We talked about it, and after that, he went on a tear. Just a great kid.

-- Greylock coach Steve Messina

Ryan Ouimet

Senior, Drury

Ouimet led the Blue Devils with a .411 average. He also had 28 hits and 15 RBI. Ouimet was versatile in the field, playing a solid center field but also used as a shortstop.

An opposing take: He's a great kid, good hitter. I know coach Marceau spoke highly of his defense. He did well against us.

-- Monument coach Tom Hankey

Mitch Clary

Senior, Taconic

Clary led the Braves with 31 hits in 22 games for a .397 average. His two triples were a team best and for good measure, was hit by pitches five times, also tops on the team. He also stole 10 bases in 11 attempts.

The coach's take: Our best outfielder this year, and boy can he hit a baseball. And every time he connected, the ball just carried.

-- Taconic coach Kevin Stannard

Jon Bianchi

Senior, St. Joseph

Bianchi led the county with a .611 average, as well as 55 hits and 12 home runs. Mr. Drama, Bianchi had three walk-off homers.

The coach's take: One of the hardest working people in the history of St. Joseph baseball. He did a great job for us this year.

-- St. Joseph coach Dennis Murphy

Kevin Donati

Junior, Pittsfield

Donati led his team with a .338 average and 24 hits. He's a solid defensive shortstop with good range.

The coach's take: Kevin played second base last year and we moved him to short this year. He did a great job. He made seven errors all year.

-- Pittsfield coach Bob Moynihan

Bobby Kinne

Junior, Monument Mountain

The leadoff hitter for the Spartans, Kinne hit .388 with two homers and 13 RBI. He drew 18 walks.

The coach's take: He was one of our captains, one of our leaders. Great leadoff hitter. He was our second baseman as a freshman, the last two years, he's been our shortstop.

-- Monument coach Tom Hankey

Ben Alley

Senior, Mount Greylock

Alley hit .400 for the Mounties, with 25 runs scored and eight stolen bases. He has a long reach at first, and snagged a lot of errant throws.

The coach's take: He didn't play a lot last year, but he stepped up this year for us. He made some big plays for us at first.

-- Messina

Eric Leitch

Senior, Mount Greylock

The .538 regular season average is pretty outstanding. But one of the more interesting stats of this year is that Leitch was 14-14 in stolen bases.

The coach's take: He was amazing this year. Even his outs were hard-hit balls.

-- Messina

Brian Bonacquisti

Senior, Taconic

Bonacquisiti is a three-year starter and one of the team's leaders. He hit a team-leading .403 and also led Taconic with three homers and 28 RBI.

The coach's take: We're going to miss this guy. He gave us three solid years, and this year, he was incredible. Hit over .400 and he was a human backstop. Nothing got by him.

-- Stannard

Designated hitters

Jack Thistle

Senior, Mount Greylock

Mr. Consistency at the plate, Thistle hit .400 and scoring 26 runs. He also had 12 RBI.

The coach's take: He came over from Pittsfield this year, and that is sometimes a tough adjustment. But he was very consistent for us all year.

-- Messina

T.J. Therrien

Senior, McCann

Therrien was another extremely consistent player in the county this year. He hit .438 for the Hornets, with 13 RBI and 13 runs scored.

The coach's take: He was our best hitter by about 80 points. He swung the bat well for us all year.

-- McCann coach Pat Ryan

Jordan Barbarotta

Senior, Taconic

The anchor of a solid pitching staff, Barbarotta went 7-1 with a 3.46 ERA, a team-leading 68 strikeouts and 20 walks. He hit .385.

The coach's take: A five-tool player. Jordan had an outstanding year for us a a pitcher and as a hitter.

-- Stannard

Robby Buffis

Senior, Mount Greylock

Buffis had a 6-0 record during the regular season, with a 1.96 ERA. He finished with a total of 48 strikeouts and seven walks on the year.

The coach's take: A tough, tough kid. He was hard on himself sometimes, but I think it made him better. He wanted to be perfect.

-- Messina

Pete Oggiani

Senior, Monument

Oggiani led the Spartans with a 7-1 record, and an ERA of 1.98. At the plate, he hit .370 with three homers and 24 RBI.

The coach's take: We called him ‘The Bulldog' because he went after everybody. A great competitor.

-- Hankey
