DALTON -- Defending champions Pete Alminas and A.J. Oleksak have put themselves in great position to win the Little Brown Jug for the fourth time.

The Longmeadow Country Club team shot a 4-under 67 to open up a four-shot lead in the best-ball tournament at Wahconah Country Club.

Alminas and Oleksak have a 36-hole total of 12-under 130 after opening with a 63 to lead the Connecticut team of Brent Dietz and Bill Tefft, who shot a second-round 68, and the New York combination of Justin Deitz and Matt Canavan. Dietz and Canavan had a second straight 67.

Dietz and Tefft are three-time champions in the Jug, having won it outright twice and tied for it once when the tournament was shortened because of rain two years ago.

Dietz was part of that tie in 2011 with then-partner Don Denyse, who is now a pro.

The leaders will tee off at 2:20 p.m. this afternoon.
