Annual Reindog Parade, winter fun on tap in Williamstown

WILLIAMSTOWN — Dress up the kids and load up the car; the Reindogs are coming to town.

The Reindog Parade is, for many, the highlight of the annual Chamber of Commerce Holiday Walk, now in its 32nd year.

Dogs, goats, horses, humans and other sundry mammals will be decked out in holiday finery and promenade down Spring Street on Saturday. The parade begins at 3 p.m., but there are other holiday events all weekend.

"The Holiday Walk is one of the special times of the year that we can come together as a community," said Emily Watts, executive director of the Williamstown Chamber of Commerce. "We celebrate more than just the December holidays; we celebrate all that we have accomplished, as businesses, the college, and individuals, together over the year."

On Friday, things get started at the Clark Art Institute with a concert and dinner/dance featuring Jonathan Dely and his jazz ensemble at 6:30 p.m. Dancing begins at 7:45 p.m. For reservations and tickets, contact the Clark at 413-458-0524.

Saturday events begin at 9:30 a.m. with the Run with the Reindeer Fun Run. There will be crafting for all ages through most of the day at or near the Progressive Pallette, and at 1 p.m. will be a free showing of "Elf" at Images Cinema.

Other events include an ice carving demonstration, ABC Jewelry Sale and Northern Berkshire Habitat for Humanity Christmas Tree Showcase at the First Congregational Church, Souperbowl Chili and Soup Cook-Off featuring local restaurants, and the Penny Social Raffle and Nonprofit Fair at Lasell Gym.

There will be a variety of live music throughout the afternoon including performances by Flat Bed Jazz, Ephoria, Pine Cobble Chorus, Accidentals, EphFlats, Salvation Army Band, Northern Berkshire Chorale and Mark Santella.

After the parade, at 3:30 p.m., Santa will visit with little fans at Where's You Get That? on lower Spring Street.

Hot chocolate and cookies will be available at The Log, as will hay rides with Saratoga Horse & Carriage. At 4 p.m., a reading of A Christmas Carol by Scrooge and Marley is featured at The Log, followed by the lighting of the Holiday Trees at 5:30 p.m.

And on Sunday the Cape Cod Café and Craft Fair is open at Williamstown Elementary School.

"We are thrilled once again to be hosting the annual Williamstown Holiday Walk," said Jason Doheny, president of the Williamstown Chamber of Commerce. "This is a wonderful event that brings our community closer together and really energizes our small town. The day will encompass everything from a fun run that will kick off the day, to ice sculpting, to the annual and beloved Reindog Parade."
