Anonymous donor offers $30,000 to North Adams Police for equipment

NORTH ADAMS >> An anonymous resident has offered the North Adams Police Department a gift of $30,000 for equipment.

The City Council, which must approve donations of this kind, will review the proposed gift at its meeting on Tuesday evening.

The gift comes with only four conditions, including that the donor remain anonymous until 2021. The funds must be placed in a special account, accessed only by the mayor at the request of the Police Director and used solely toward the purchase of equipment for the North Adams Police Department.

"On behalf of the city of North Adams and the North Adams Police Department, I want to thank the donor for their generosity and commitment to this community," wrote Mayor Richard Alcombright in a letter to the City Council.

The mayor's letter does not indicate what equipment the funds will be used to purchase, or when the money will be used.

Police Director Michael Cozzaglio could not be reached on Friday.

The City Council's meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall.
