Area college students earn academic recognition


Michael Keegan, son of Christopher and Maryanne Keegan of Pittsfield, has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2012 quarter at Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology.

A second-year student in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, Keegan is studying medical informatics. He is a 2010 graduate of Taconic High School.


Travis Wardell Sowle of Dalton has been named to the spring 2012 dean's list at Texas State University-San Marcos.

Students named to the dean's list must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.50 while carrying a class load of at least 12 semester hours.


Laura Toomey, daughter of James and Donna Toomey of Lee, has been named to the dean's list at Westfield State University for the spring 2012 semester. Toomey majored in elementary education and psychology.

To be named to the dean's list, students must complete a 12-hour semester with a grade point average of at least 3.3.


Brianna Sporbert, daughter of Dermot and Kimberly Sporbert of Pittsfield, has been named to the president's list for both the fall 2011 and spring 2012 semesters at Western New England University in Springfield.

President's list requires a grade point average of 3.8 or above.

Sporbert is a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
