Area colleges: Williams men's hockey suffers its first loss
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The Williams College men's hockey team suffered its first loss of the year on Friday, losing 3-2 in overtime to Hobart in the semifinals of the Buck Supply Tournament.
Plattsburgh State is the host team.
Williams never led. Down 1-0, the Ephs' Nick Anderson scored to tie at 9:35 of the second period, assisted by George Hunkele.
After Hobart took a 2-1 lead, Willams' Sam Gray scored at 11:14 of the third period to tie the game. The score remained 2-2 to the end of regulation. In the overtime, Mac Olson's goal nine seconds into the period ended the contest.
Williams fell to 5-1-2. Eph goalie Sean Dougherty had 33 saves in net.
MCLA men's basketball loses
LANCASTER, Pa. -- The MCLA men squandered a halftime lead and fell to Hobart 70-67 in the consolation round of the Sponaugle Holiday Hoops Tournament.
Up four points at intermission, MCLA pushed the lead out to eight, 61-53, before Hobart rallied. Hobart used a 12-1 run to take control of the game.
Ramon Viches led MCLA with 14 points. He was named to the All-Tournament team.
MCLA is now 2-9 on the season.
Williams wrestling improves to 3-0
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Williams dominated Simpson College 34-11 and the University of Southern Maine 38-6 to go to 3-0 on the season.
Jorge Lopez picked up a pair of wins at 157, while Martin Strenk had a pin at 174 against Southern Maine.
