Assistant Solicitor Lee submits resignation
PITTSFIELD >> Assistant City Solicitor Darren M. Lee Has decided to leave his position this month.
"I cleared with [Mayor Daniel L. Bianchi] and [Solicitor Kathleen Degnan]," Lee said Thursday, adding that he gave a week's notice in his resignation letter.
"I have enjoyed it the four years I've done it," Lee said, but he now intends to focus more on his private practice with Martin, Oliveira & Hamel. The assistant solicitor's job is part time.
Lee, a supporter of Bianchi, who was defeated Tuesday for re-election by City Clerk Linda M. Tyer, said he also wants to clear the way for the new mayor to make her own appointment after she takes office.
"This is nothing against Linda," Lee said. "I like Linda too. She has to get together her own team."
He said he already has his files mostly in order for the next assistant, adding that there are no major pending items on his plate as assistant solicitor.
Degnan could not be reached Friday for comment.
Lee is a 2000 graduate of Western New England School of Law and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He is treasurer of the Berkshire Bar Association.
