In Hobbit realms

Filmmaker Peter Jackson returns to the realm of J.R.R. Tolkein's Hobbits and the ring in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," the three-hours-plus, 3-D, high-speed projection extravaganza that is the first of a three-part prelude to Jackson's previous "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

The PG-13-rated saga arrives Friday at Beacon Cinema in Pittsfield, Berkshire Mall Cinema 10 in Lanesborough, Crandell Theatre in Chatham, N.Y., North Adams Movieplex 8 and Triplex Cinema in Great Barrington. On stage

‘Seagull' on new flight

"Seagull (Thinking of you)" is a new live performance that works with, against, and beneath Chekhov's "The Seagull," will be presented Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Hunter Center at Mass MoCA in North Adams.
