Auto break-ins a concern

Monday, March 31
BECKET — A rash of car break-ins have police warning residents to keep their cars locked.

Sgt. Mark Portieri said five cars were vandalized on Main Street Saturday night in incidents that appear to be connected to a pair of break-ins a week ago. Stolen items included wallets, a portable DVD player and a briefcase.

One break-in victim told Portieri that his daughter returned home at 1:30 a.m. to find the motion sensor light outside the house freshly triggered.

"We haven't had a rash like this before," Portieri said. "People need to make sure they lock their cars. You live out here and think everything is OK. But it's not."

Individuals with any information regarding the incidents can call Becket Police at (413) 623-6010.
