Barrington's Green River swimming hole closed due to high E. coli count

Friday June 1, 2012

GREAT BARRINGTON -- The Health Department has closed the Green River swimming hole on Route 23 because of an elevated E. coli bacteria count.

Levels from samples taken on Wednesday revealed an E. coli count that exceeds the state's current advised maximum contaminant level. An additional test today confirmed the results.

The Board of Health will continue to monitor and test the water and will keep the swimming hole closed until further notice.

The Green River access point has been posted with signs alerting the public.
