Baseball roundup: Lenox qualifies for postseason with win over Mount Everett

SHEFFIELD — The Lenox baseball team punched its ticket to the Western Massachusetts Division IV tournament with a 7-1 win over Mount Everett on Thursday.

The Millionaires (10-4) got a complete-game effort from Patrick Colvin. Colvin struck out three and walked two on just three hits.

Colvin added two hits at the plate — including a triple — and Noah Hunter had a pair of hits and a run batted in for Lenox.

For the Eagles (6-11), Cavan Brady had a pair of hits in the loss.

WAHCONAH 3, DRURY 2

DALTON >> Wahconah used clutch hitting and heads-up base running to earn a walk-off win over Drury.

The Warriors trailed by two runs heading into the bottom of the seventh. Cam Taylor singled and Ben Schmitt walked, putting two runners on base. Will Genaway's sacrifice bunt led to an error from Drury's third baseman, scoring Taylor and putting runners on second and third.

After a Shane Sinopoli strikeout, Ty Cowdrey hit a slow roller to Drury's drawn-in infield, Schmitt scored from third, but Logan Rumbolt tried to throw out Cowdrey at first, allowing Genaway to score from second for the win.

Gage Frazier earned the win on the mound. He went the distance, striking out three and allowing only two hits. Cam Taylor led the offense with two hits.

"I told them time and time again. They have such heart and they never give up," Wahconah Rob Cowdrey said. "When you don't give up good things will happen."

SPRINGFIELD >> McCann Tech moves one win closer to a Tri-County title with its win over Sci-Tech.

The Hornets (13-4, 11-2) used a strong all-around performance in the road win. Robert Matte earned the win on the mound. He went the distance, striking out six and allowing only three hits. Mike Ferrara, Colin Racette, Charlie Bohl and Connor Guyette had two hits each.

"This was a big game for us," McCann Tech coach Pat Ryan said. "It's coming down to crunch time. ... We're alone in first place and we're trying to get to the championship."

TACONIC 7, MONUMENT MOUNTAIN 2

PITTSFIELD >> The Braves bounced back from a loss against Minnechaug with a decision over Monument Mountain on Thursday.

The Braves (14-2, 7-0 Berkshire North) exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to do all of their scoring. In that inning, Ross Omelenchuck had a bases-clearing triple to plate a trio of runs.

"It was a quick turnaround," Taconic coach Kevin Stannard said about playing back-to-back. "We could have hung our heads a little bit. We were a little flat at first, but broke it open with Ross' triple."

Omelenchuck also got the win on the mound, going the distance and striking out three on one walk and five hits. Jack Cooney added a pair of hits for Taconic and drove in a run, and Brett Murphy also had a pair of hits.

For Monument (7-8, 1-4), Dominic DeFelice had a pair of hits and Nate Cormier drove in an run on a triple.
