Baseball: SteepleCats win, Suns lose on Wednesday

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Shaefer Shepard shut down the Newport Gulls on the mound, and Zach Lucas drove in two runs to lead the North Adams SteepleCats to a 7-1 road win Wednesday.

After an Anthony Papio walk, a Edgar Michelangeli single and a Todd Juliano sacrifice bunt, Kyle Richardson hit a one-out, two-run triple to give North Adams the lead. Vinny Siena then drove in Richardson with a groundout.

Zach Lucas singled in Josh Delph in the fifth for the fourth North Adams run, and then homered in the top of the eighth. The SteepleCats added two more runs in the ninth.

Shepard allowed just a third-inning run for North Adams.
