BCC retools its website, offers online application feature
PITTSFIELD -- Berkshire Community College has launched a redesigned and reconstructed website that for the first time offers an online student application process.
The $150,000 project began early in 2013 when the college issued a request for proposals for a system vendor and site designer, said Christina Barrett, BCC's director of marketing and student recruitment. Barrett unveiled the new site this week to the college's trustees.
Funding, which was spread over two fiscal years, included $100,000 from the BCC Foundation and funds from two annual budgets.
Prospective students are taking advantage of the online application feature.
"We launched on July 31, and since then we have had 200 apply [online]," she said.
The site has a "fresh, clean look," Barrett said. It has enhanced search capabilities through Google, a decentralized content management system that for the first time allows data entry from multiple locations, a Spanish translation feature, and a more responsive design.
The next phase of the installation, Barrett said, includes enhanced calendar and community education/workforce development sections and the inclusion of other admission and matriculation forms. Those features are expected by Sept. 5.
The home page, at berkshirecc.edu, has a more open design with a slide-show of images and messages about the college, such as "Start Here. Go Anywhere," which Barrett said has been an effective recruiting slogan.
The links to other website pages also have been redesigned with a simplified layout and are easier to navigate, she said.
Omni Update is the vendor for the Web content management system. The new site was designed by mStoner Inc.
