Friday September 21, 2012

Becket Land Trust founders Ken and Ann Smith will lead a leisurely hike to explore the Historic Quarry from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23, and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Hikers will learn about granite quarrying from 1850 to the 1950s and see the quarry, now filled with water, surrounded white birch trees, flora and fauna, the standing wooden derrick, winches, and other artifacts.

The Land Trust has developed miles of hiking trails, on which the group will walk to the vista bench to view the demonstration forest.

Pre-registration requested by emailing LandTrust@BecketLandTrust.org. For directions visit BecketLandTrust.org.
