Pole surveys coming this fall

Whip City Fiber is continuing its high-speed internet effort in town.

Precision Valley Communications, a contractor, will conduct utility pole surveys and data collection for the town's move to high-speed broadband on behalf of Whip City Fiber, a division of Westfield Gas + Electric.

The town entered into an agreement with Westfield Gas + Electric in August 2017 to conduct broadband network design and engineering, to bid the contract for construction of a town-owned fiber-optic network, and to perform pole surveys.

The pole survey work is expected to take about eight to 12 weeks.

Kristopher McDonough appointed emergency management director

In response to increasing training requirements, Police Chief Kristopher McDonough has been appointed to emergency management director for the town.

The trainings conflicted with former director Tim Sullivan's work schedule.

Sullivan had volunteered his service in the role for the past seven years.

The Select Board unanimously approved former Town Administrator Ed Gibson's appointment of McDonough at its Jan. 3 meeting.
