Beeping package closes Spring Street in Williamstown
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Spring Street was closed for about 45 minutes on Wednesday morning while police investigated a suspicious package -- which was beeping.
Around 9:20 a.m., Williamstown police received a call regarding a suspicious parcel at U.S. Post Office on Spring Street. The package was beeping, according to Police Chief Kyle Johnson, in a brief written statement.
The police and fire departments responded to the scene and closed Spring Street to vehicular and pedestrian traffic until authorities determined the package was harmless.
The parcel, which was addressed to a Williams College student from her parents, contained an electronic game that made the beeping noise. The names of the recipient and sender were not released and no charges have been filed.
