Berkshire County golf: Locals competing in Four-Ball Championship

Posted

Four teams with Berkshire County connections are tied for 22nd or better after the opening round of the 36-hole Massachusetts Golf Association Four-Ball Championship at The Captains and Cranberry Valley golf courses on Cape Cod.

Berkshire Hills Country Club's Bob Linn and partner Jim Hosey (The Orchards), who finished ninth last year and second in 2014, shot a 3-under 69 at The Captains to tie for 12th place. That was along with the Taconic Golf Club pairing of Ed Sennett and Bill Hadden, who also played The Captains.

Stockbridge Golf Club member Jim Finnerty and Paul Murphy (Charles River Country Club), who won the championship in 2010, shot a 70 at The Captains. They are tied for 22nd along with Wyantenuck Country Club's Joe Grochmal and Dave Magadalenski (Ridge Club), who also played at the Captains.

The local teams will need to go very low in today's final round today to contend for top honors with Marc Forbes (Norton CC) and Bill Vine (Foxborough CC) having fired a 9-under 63 to build a two-shot lead. They also played at The Captains, which played much easier than Cranberry Valley.

Ralph Dastoli (Berkshire Hills CC) and Mark Chylinski (Cranwell Spa and Golf Resort) shot a 1-under 71 to tie for 47th at Cranberry Valley, but considering the lowest score at that course was a 70, they played better positioned than their score may suggest.

Berkshire Hills member Steve Terpak and partner Richard Tortolini (Cyprian Keyes Country Club) are tied for 86th in the 141-team field after shooting a 74 at The Captains.

The players will switch courses for today's final round.
