Berkshire County golf: Shields and Driscoll win at Stockbridge

Chris Shields and Randy Driscoll successfully defended their Stockbridge Trophy title at the Stockbridge Golf Club on Sunday, shooting a 1-under-par 70 for a 9-under 133 total and a one-shot victory over the brother team of Jeff and Rick Puleri, who shot a 68.

Shields and Driscoll, who are members at Stockbridge, started the final round in the best-ball event with a three-shot lead and held that margin heading to the 18th tee. The brother duo made it interesting by making a birdie, but Shields and Driscoll managed a bogey to hold on for the one-shot victory.

It was a reversal of fortune for Driscoll and Jeff Puleri, lifetime friends who often are partners. Jeff captured the Allied Four-Ball Championship in May with Steve Sykes as his partner by one shot over Driscoll and Bob Linn.

The team of Chris Ferriter and Joe Wilson (66-69 — 135) finished third and the father-son pairing of Jim and Matt Finnerty (68-68 — 136) finished fourth.
