Berkshire County: Non-profit agencies offer free tax service

Berkshire County households with income less than $50,270 are eligible for free tax preparation services. Some of these households may also qualify for an Earned Income Tax Credit of up to $5,891.

Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity, Berkshire Community Action Council and the Berkshire United Way have joined forces to offer this service, called VITA Tax.

VITA is the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program by IRS trained and certified volunteers. Household incomes of less than $57,000 may file for free online by visiting

Residents will need a valid email address to file online.

Berkshire County residents meeting the household income requirement may call any of these free tax preparation sites to schedule an appointment:
