Berkshire County sports notes, Aug. 25
The Lee Community Tennis Association is planning its 21st Annual U.S. Open bus trip on Aug. 30. An air-conditioned luxury bus will depart from the Big Y parking lot in Lee at 7:15 a.m. with stops in Stockbridge, Great Barrington and Egremont before arriving at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens at 10:45 a.m. The bus will return to Lee, leaving at 7 p.m., arriving in Lee at 10.
An extra hour has been added this year for those late-day matches. Assigned seating is included inside the newly covered Arthur Ashe Stadium. This means no more suspension of play in case of inclement weather.
Plan for a full day of doubles and singles tennis matches on all 17 courts and the five stadiums, including the new Grandstand Stadium with lots of afternoon shade, and watch the top pros on the many practice courts. Cost of the trip, which includes ticket and bus, is $125 per adult (discounts for Lee CTA members), $100 for children 18 and under and $62.50 for Lee CTA children. A limited number of tickets are still available. Go to www.leecta.com to sign up and pay for this event or call Bunnie and Ed at 413-243-3240 for more information.
