Berkshire County sports roundup: Mount Greylock boys, Lenox girls top leaderboard in race at Greylock


WILLIAMSTOWN — The Mount Greylock boys and Lenox girls dominated Wednesday's race at Mount Greylock, with the Mountie boys taking the top 8 spots in their race while the Millionaire girls took first, third, sixth, seventh and eighth to pick up a team win against the Greylock girls.

Greylock's Evan Arthur picked up his second win of the year after sitting out last week, running his home course in 14 minutes, 7 seconds. Sam Culver (14:54.6), Cam Castonguay (14:58.1), Owen Brandriss (15:02.9) and Josh Cheung (15:05.4) rounded out the top 5 finishers. Monument Mountain's Jared Henry was the first non-Mountie to cross, finishing ninth in 15:46.6.

The Greylock boys scored team wins over Lenox and Monument by scores of 15-50. Lee defeated Mount Everett 21-40, Monument defeated Mount Everett 15-48, and Monument topped Lee 15-49.

For the girls, Lenox's Emma Jourdain beat out Mount Greylock's Margo Smith for the third straight race. Jourdain finished in 16:15.1 while Smith ran in 16:25.4. Lenox's Alice Najimy (17:19.6), Monument's Grace Phair (17:28) and Greylock's Niku Darafshi (17:40.9) rounded out the top 5 finishers.

In team results, Lenox beat Mount Greylock 22-35, Greylock defeated Monument 22-38, Monument bested Lee 15-49 and Lee topped Mount Everett 23-34.

PITTSFIELD >> The Pittsfield golf team finally made its home debut at Pittsfield Country Club, and the wait was worth it as the Generals topped their city rivals and knocked the Braves from the unbeaten ranks.

Ricky Berrian led Pittsfield (5-2) with a 2-over 37 on the par-35 front nine. He earned the medalist honors on the day.

"[My players] were good, we are playing well right now," Pittsfield coach Chris Polidoro said. "We had a little shaky start to the year, but we are playing well right now."

Mike Kays was the low man for Taconic (6-1), shooting a 41.

PITTSFIELD >> Wahconah held off Taconic in five sets. The scores were 26-28, 28-26, 25-21, 24-26 and 12-15.

For Wahconah (4-2), Kristin Mange had 22 digs, Emma Parkington recorded 17 kills, six blocks and six aces and Francesca Gigliotti contributed six kills, four digs and 19 assists.

For Taconic (1-4), Janee Walker registered 12 digs, Delaney Ivas added two aces, four kills and three digs and Jasmine Rodriguez had six aces and three kills.


PITTSFIELD >> Lee defeated Monument Mountain 25-12, 25-5, 18-25, 25-6.

Kendra Williams had five aces and 28 assists for Lee (6-1). Shenna Tyer added 12 kills and Anna Wang had five digs.

For Monument (2-3), Megan Race had four kills and two blocks while Alexa Troiano had two aces, two kills and six digs.

"We've been working on minimizing our unforced errors," Monument coach Kyle Henry said. "In the third set we did that and put together some offense. When you can play well against a team like Lee, it's a step in the right direction."
