Berkshire Gas alerts customers to email scam


Berkshire Gas is warning customers about an email scam. The company says in a letter to its customers that they should ignore emails from "Atmos Energy" seeking payment for their natural gas usage.

"We have determined, in speaking with these customers and from a post on the Atmos Energy website, that these are fraudulent emails. According to a message on the Atmos Energy website, this is a national scam," the company’s letter stated.

The following advice is being provided to Berkshire Gas customers on the company’s website: "Some Berkshire Gas customers have recently reported receiving emails from "Atmos Energy" seeking payment for their natural gas usage. These are scam emails and should be ignored and deleted from your computer. These emails are in no way related to your Berkshire Gas account and the scammers sending them have not accessed any Berkshire Gas records or accounts."

If Berkshire Gas customers have questions, they’re being told to call Berkshire Gas customer service at 1-800-292-5012.

Atmos Energy natural gas utility serving customers in 12 states, mostly in the Southeast.
