Berkshire Theatre Group's "Fiorello!" production heading Off-Broadway

STOCKBRIDGE — Berkshire Theatre Group's production of the 1960 Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning musical, "Fiorello!" will be moving Off-Broadway on Labor Day weekend.

"Fiorello!" will run at East 13th Street Theater, 136 East 13th St., from Sept. 2 through Oct. 6. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks. This is the first time Berkshire Theatre Group will be producing a show Off-Broadway.

Directed by Bob Moss, with choreography by Michael Callahan and music direction by Evan Zavada, the production will continue its sold-out run at BTG's Unicorn Theatre through July 23.

The show examines the life and career of the colorful New York progressive politician Fiorello LaGuardia in the years leading up to and including the successful 1933 campaign for election as a Fusion candidate to the first of what would be three successive terms (1934-1945) as mayor of New York. Music and lyrics are by Tony Award-winners Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick ("Fiddler on the Roof," "She Loves Me"). The book is by Tony- and Drama Desk Award-winner George Abbott ("The Pajama Game," "Damn Yankees") and Jerome Weidman ("Tenderloin").
