Berkshire United high schoolers advance in national sevens rugby tourney

The Berkshire United High School Rugby Club's boys sevens team won two of its three pool-play matches at the USA Sevens High School Rugby Challenge in Philadelphia, earning a spot in today's quarterfinals.

Berkshire lost its first match 14-7 to West Shore United (Pa.) on Friday, but rebounded to beat St. Augustine Prep (N.J.) 22-7. Saturday morning, Malik Wilbon scored the only try of the match in Berkshire's 5-0 win over Kenne saw Mountain (Ga.). Wilbon, a Mount Everett High School student, reached the try zone with 2 minutes, 23 seconds left.

Wilbon leads the club so far with four tries, having scored Berkshire's lone try in the loss to West Shore and twice against St. Augustine. Jordan Knowlton and Tony Cruz (Taconic) also scored tries in the St. Augustine victory, with Knowlton kicking a conversion. He also kicked one in the opener.

Berkshire -- the No. 2 team from Pool C -- will face Pool D winner Pride Rugby from Wash ington, D.C. at 9:10 a.m. at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. The semifinals are at 11:18 and 11:38 a.m., with the final set for 1:26 p.m.
