OUTSIDE MULLINGAR: John Patrick Shanley's untidy play about two lonely single people who tend adjoining farms in rural Ireland is given an appropriately untidy, muddled production. Kim Stauffer shines as the robust, determined fortysomething woman who is determined to extract the love she knows is there from a shy, whining, fortysomething next door neighbor who won't give in to feelings he is too afraid to acknowledge. Shanley is his own worst enemy with a play that fights against itself in a conflicted production that also does him little, if any, good (Oct. 5). Closes Oct. 16. Evenings — Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30; Friday and Saturday at 8. Matinees — Saturday at 2; Sunday at 3. 1 hour 57 minutes (including one intermission)
Capital Repertory Theatre, 111 N. Pearl St., Albany, N.Y. Tickets — $50-$20. 518-445-7469; capitalrep.org
