Bianchi steps up for city's Ward 7
I would like to comment on the article Sunday by Eagle reporter Dick Lindsay concerning Mayor Bianchi’s first year in office.
Mr. Lindsay and I spoke for approximately 45 minutes on my impression of the mayor’s first year. I commented that as a first-year city councilor I didn’t have a history in city government to draw upon, but I did offer my observations and I would like to share a few.
First and foremost, I feel the mayor has an open door policy. Every time I needed to speak to or meet with the mayor he always made himself available. On several occasions he met with my constituents and me to listen and assist with our concerns.
A couple of days following Hurricane Sandy, I contacted the mayor regarding the frustration of a constituent without power for several days. Later that day, I went to meet with the resident at his home. When I arrived, the mayor was standing in the front yard discussing the problem with him.
I could cite several other situations were Mayor Bianchi has assisted the residents of Ward 7, but would simply like to say, as a new city councilor, I appreciate the help and support the mayor has extended to us. TONY SIMONELLI
The writer is city councilor for Ward 7.
