Bits & Bites: Strawberry dinners, tea at Ventfort Hall
Strawberry shortcake supper
The Pownal United Methodist Church will serve its annual strawberry shortcake supper on Thursday, June 23. The family-style dinner will begins at 5 p.m. with continuous serving.
The menu includes grilled chicken breasts and thighs, baked ham, pineapple sauce, scalloped potatoes, Jello, coleslaw, rolls, coffee, iced tea or lemonade, and homemade strawberry shortcake.
Tickets, available at the door, are $12 for adults, $6 for children 4 to 10 years, free for children 3 and younger.
The church is at the corner of Route 346 and Church Street, Pownal, Vt. Use the south side entrance for takeouts.
Immaculate Conception Parish Seniors will get together for an ice cream social, featuring "make your own sundae," at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 24, in the parish hall, 732 US Route 20 in New Lebanon, N.Y.
Bingo will also be available for those who enjoy playing. The gathering is open to all interested seniors and is free. For more information, call 518-733-0469.
Strawberry shortcake will star at the 35th annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday, June 26, under tents at Gardner's Ice Cream and Coffee Shop, 15879 NY Route 22, Stephentown, N.Y.
This fund-raiser for the Stephentown Historical Society runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Strawberries will be served on sponge cake or home-baked biscuits with whipped cream, or with ice cream for sundaes. Strawberry-rhubarb pie a la mode and whole strawberry-rhubarb pies will also be sold. For additional information, call 518-733-5170 or 518-733-6177.
Ventfort Tea and Talk
Architectural and social historian Cornelia Brooke Gilder will present a Tea & Talk on "Past Private Gateposts: Up Winding Drives of Historic Berkshire Houses" at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, at Ventfort Hall Mansion & Gilded Age Museum. A Victorian tea will follow.

Farmers Market Kid's Day
The Lee Farmers Market will hold a Kid's Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, on the town green near the Congregational Church.
Face painting by Jess Pollard will be offered from 10 to 11 a.m. and Terry A La Berry will perform from 11 a.m. to noon.
The Lee Library Association, Lee Community Tennis Association, Lee Police Department, South Berkshire Kids and more will have fun, free activities for the kids from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Lee Recycling Committee will sponsor a toy/book swap. Bring gently used children's toys and books to the park from 9 to 11 a.m. and then visit the market between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to find a new treasure for free. For more information, visit leefarmersmarket.com.
Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon picnic
On Saturday, June 25, Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon will hold a cocktail reception and a community picnic to celebrate the opening of the 2016 season and the summer exhibition "Wash: There is no dirt in heaven."
The exhibition tells the story of the day to day work of Shaker women and men as they carried out the chore of weekly communal laundry.
The cocktail reception begins at 4:30 p.m. and the picnic begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets to the reception are $25, $15 for members; tickets to the picnic are $10. Children younger than 8 eat free at the picnic. All are welcome, but space is limited, so tickets should be purchased well in advance.
