Bits & Bites: Harvest supper, mushroom walk help kick off fall

BERKSHIRE GROWN'S HARVEST SUPPER

Berkshire Grown's 19th Annual Harvest Supper puts local food at the center of the celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ski Butternut in Great Barrington.

New this year, Berkshire Grown is partnering with state Sen. Adam G. Hinds, co-chair of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts & Cultural Development, to highlight the Berkshires' thriving farm-to-table movement at the Harvest Supper. Hinds is hosting his committee members in the Berkshires that day for a full agenda of regional tourism, cultural and small business-related events that will end at the supper.

More than two dozen Berkshire Grown member chefs and local beverage producers will be on-hand. The chefs will be serving a wide selection of tastings — all featuring fresh ingredients from local farms. The evening also includes a silent auction.

For this year's event, Berkshire Grown is welcoming chefs from Allium Restaurant + Bar, Baba Louie's, Berkshire Co-op Market, Castle Street Caf , Firefly Gastropub and Catering Co., Gala Restaurant & Bar at Orchards Hotel, The Gateways Inn, Gedney Farm, Guido's Fresh Marketplace, H.R. Zeppelin Chocolates, Hotchkiss School, John Andrews Farmhouse Restaurant, Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, Mezze Bistro + Bar, nAtURAlly @ Berkshire Mountain Bakery, The Old Inn on the Green, Pera Bistro, Prairie Whale, The Red Lion Inn, SoCo Creamery, 20 Railroad Public House, Wheatleigh, and Williams College. Complimentary drinks will also be provided by Barrington Brewery, Berkshire Mountain Distillers, Big Elm Brewing, MS Walker Wines, and No. Six Depot Roastery and Caf .

BENEFIT WINE, BEER TASTING

Party on the Patio, a wine and beer tasting event to benefit the Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Mazzeo's Ristorante, 1015 South St., Pittsfield. Tickets are available at www.brighamcenter.org.



FOREST AND MUSHROOM WALK

Join David Babik for a forest and mushroom walk along the Rivulet Trail from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bryant Homestead in Cummington. During the walk, participants will break into small groups and collect specimens for about 90 minutes and then reconvene to look over and discuss what was found. Afterward, ID experts will discuss the mushroom findings with the group.
