Pittsfield: GFCU gives $25K grant to BSC

The Barrington Stage Company has received a $25,000 grant from the Greylock Federal Credit Union.

Of that sum, $15,000 will benefit BSC’s nationally acclaimed Playwright Mentoring Project (PMP), while $10,000 will sponor BSC’s annual Youth Theatre production of Hairspray JR.

Greylock will also sponsor of this year’s BSC Education Benefit on Sept. 12 featuring singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega on the Boyd-Quinson Mainstage. BSC’s Playwright Mentoring Project (PMP) is the major beneficiary of this event.

Now entering its 14th year, PMP is a six-month, extra-curricular theatrical arts program for at-risk youth in Pittsfield and North Adams. BSC’s Youth Theatre is designed to engage local youth, ages 13-19, in an intensive theater setting.

Berkshires: Pignatelli, museum featured in mag

State Rep. William "Smitty" Pignatelli, D-Lenox, and the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge are featured in an article published in the July/August issue of the National Magazine for State Legislatures.

The article describes Pignatelli’s connection to Rockwell. When he was 9, Pignatelli was chosen to model as a boy astronaut for Rockwell.

The Berkshire Visitors Bureau commissioned a writer to write the article. Titled "Mission Accomplished" the article can be found online at www.ncsl.org/research/about-state-legislatures/mission-accomplished.aspx.
